Kanpur: The IIT-Kanpur administration has resolved to terminate 54 students from the institute for failing to do well in academics and some other reasons. The decision was taken in the Senate meeting held on the campus on Wednesday.

After the action, there is a stir among the students in the campus. At the same time, administrative officials say that according to the rules of IIT, action is taken against students who perform poorly in academics. Apart from this, some students for indiscipline, misbehaving with peers have also been sacked. Most of the suspended students are pursuing B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D.

However, the Director of IIT, Prof. Abhay Karandikar said that “Students will be given an opportunity to appeal against their termination. At times, students are unable to perform well due to illness or other unavoidable reasons. Such students who have a good track record otherwise usually get a chance to study again in their respective courses.”
